Recruitment

We are committed to growing the company by recruiting exceptionally able postgraduates. We would also be happy to discuss opportunities for more experienced candidates or for becoming an Associate on a case-by-case basis. We offer internships by invitation only.

Postgraduate opportunities

Our recruitment flyer provides a print-friendly overview of what we offer to successful applicants and the type of person we are looking to recruit.

Our aim: We are aiming to recruit one or two postgraduates to start in Autumn 2008. However, applications are welcome at any time of the year.

Your abilities: You should possess a 2:1 or better and have, or be nearing completion of, a postgraduate qualification. Exceptional candidates possessing only a first degree will be considered. We consider candidates from all subjects, with typical candidates having science, engineering, economics or mathematics backgrounds. Ideal candidates will be looking for an opportunity to use and enhance their analytical skills within a small business environment, through application to challenging problems. You should have superb soft skills and an interest in technology. Being able to express complex ideas articulately, and to cope under pressure, is essential. You should be self-motivated, and be keen both to perform consultancy assignments and contribute to the day-to-day running and further development of the company.

Current requirement for Autumn 2008: We are looking specifically for postgraduate candidates with some technical experience, particularly in Internet technology. This should include familiarity with technical concepts, technology and standards. These might include TCP/IP protocols, web standards and Web 2.0 principles. Your technical understanding should complement a broader interest in how technology is used by people and organisations. Note that we are not looking for software engineers, technical architects or website designers. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need clarification on our requirements.

Salary range: c. £26-28k, with a good pension plan (a company contribution of 7.5% of your salary).

Your career: From day one, you will be involved in as many aspects of company operations as possible, with guidance and training provided by senior staff on an on-the-job basis. New recruits who demonstrate aptitude for clear thinking, creativity and initiative can expect to progress to Consultant grade after about two years, with opportunities for further progression within the company as it grows.

Closing date: Ongoing, but early applications encouraged.

Location of job: Guildford and on client sites when required.

Available to: Postgraduates in particular, from any subject.

Duration of position: Permanent.

Application procedure: Please send a CV and covering letter by email to the Recruitment Manager, at recruitment@curtiscartwright.co.uk. Applications are reviewed by the Recruitment Manager and senior company staff. Those candidates who are successful at this stage will be invited for an informal first interview to find out more about the company, and to see if your career aims match our needs and ambitions. If you are successful in this interview you will be invited back for a second, more formal interview which would include giving a brief presentation and discussing a sample assignment. Owing to our work with the UK Government, you must also be prepared to undergo security clearance.

Queries: If you have any questions please email recruitment@curtiscartwright.co.uk, or call 01483 295020 and ask to speak to the Recruitment Manager.

Profile: Dr Claire Davies Claire joined us in late 2005 after completing her PhD in Chemistry at Bristol University. Since then she has worked on and managed a variety of projects for public sector clients, as well as supporting the development of the company. Dr Claire Davies

"In my first two years, my role has been to support assignments from start to finish. This includes information gathering such as reviewing documentation and running stakeholder interviews, pulling out the key issues and then addressing them as best possible. It also encompasses writing up and reviewing the reports and presentations we give to the client. In many ways this is similar to my PhD - the so-called transferable skills from my academic study have actually been put to good use!

I enjoy the thought-provoking problems that we deal with, and it is satisfying to provide good answers that go beyond the obvious - the deeper organisational and human aspects are always important. Each assignment is different and I'm encouraged to build a broad experience base. Senior-level coaching and specific training courses has helped me to achieve this.

We all take an active role in the running of the company - I know exactly where my salary comes from at the end of the month! I've looked after our quality assurance almost from when I started, and I've recently been given more responsibilities such as recruitment, coordinating business development and marketing. These early managerial experiences (and challenges!) will certainly stand me in good stead for the future."

Opportunities for more experienced candidates

If you have significant relevant experience in our areas of expertise then an initial application can be made via a CV and covering letter to the Recruitment Manager (recruitment@curtiscartwright.co.uk) or through discussion with senior company staff. At this point we decide how to take promising candidates forward on a case-by-case basis.

Opportunities for becoming an Associate

We are looking to add to the range of experienced Associates we use on an "as required" basis. If you think you can meet our demanding criteria please make an initial application either through a CV and covering letter to the Recruitment Manager (recruitment@curtiscartwright.co.uk) or through discussion with senior company staff.

Internships

We offer internships by invitation only, and do not consider placements lasting less than one year. Unsolicited requests for internships will, unfortunately, not be considered.
